Nova Scotia Grief Alliance Events

Through virtual education, regional roundtables, and our province-wide grief symposium, the Nova Scotia Grief Alliance brings people together to share knowledge, experiences, and support.

Online educational offerings provide valuable insights on grief-related topics, while regional roundtables create space for open discussions and learning opportunities.

The Province-wide Grief Symposium gathers grief researchers, health professionals, and community organizations to explore the latest in grief care and support.

The event schedule below will be updated regularly.

Title: Heavy Hearts & Minds: Understanding the Well-Being of Migrant Workers in Annapolis Valley.

Presenter: Stacey Gomez, Executive Director - Centre for Migrant Worker Rights NS

Time: 12:00-1:30pm AST

Location: VIRTUAL/ZOOM

Description: The presentation will share findings from CMWR NS’ 2025 community-based research project, Heavy Hearts & Minds, which explored the emotional and mental well-being of migrant agricultural workers employed in Nova Scotia through the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP). The study examined experiences of grief, loss, and overall well-being across the adulthood lifespan (ages 19–59). Highlighting the systemic challenges they face in family life, community integration, workplace environments, and employer-provided housing, and the negative impact these stressors have on emotional health.

Framed through the lens of the palliative approach, our findings underscore the importance of addressing psychosocial and environmental factors that affect quality of life, even outside the context of terminal illness. By prioritizing holistic support informed by the lived experiences of migrant workers, we put forward recommendations aimed at enhancing emotional resilience, social support, and overall well-being in this vulnerable population.
